The Plaguelands update 1.02.00 adds Plaguelands, a new area for players progressing through Nightmare, Hell and Torment difficulties. The official Steam announcement was published on September 8, 2026 and details the access requirements, Contamination management and arrival of Level 90 gear.

This content is more than a new map. Plaguelands creates a trade-off between time spent exploring, monster strength and loot quality. The update also revises Act Boss chests, adds Cube recipes and introduces several interface features.

Key points

  • Plaguelands opens through the Portal UI in Nightmare, Hell and Torment.
  • You must clear Stage 1-10 in each relevant difficulty.
  • Entering from a normal area requires at least 30 Contamination.
  • Version 1.02.00 adds Level 90 gear and accessories.
  • New Level 90 items can be traded on the Market and are marked Type C.

Confirmed changes and fixes

Version 1.02.00 adds a Statistics feature, new Runes, additional Settings options, an Appearance system and new skins. Some Unique Stat descriptions have also been corrected, but their underlying effects remain unchanged.

Act Boss chests receive a standardized distribution from Nightmare Act 2 to Torment Act 3: 42% gear, 28% accessories and 30% materials. The announcement notes that the material share previously varied from 17% to 50% depending on the chest. This makes the distribution more predictable without establishing an overall increase in loot.

The official post also warns that a login queue lasting up to one hour may appear around deployment. This is a warning from the team, not a measurement confirming that every player will experience this wait.

Plaguelands Update 1.02.00: Access and Contamination Management

Unlocking follows a precise rule: you must clear Stage 1-10 in each relevant difficulty, then use the Portal UI in Nightmare, Hell or Torment. To move from a normal area into Plaguelands, the character must have at least 30 Contamination.

This resource limits the time spent in the area. It decreases while the player remains in Plaguelands, and the player is forcibly returned to a normal area when it reaches zero. Contamination recharges over time whether the player is online or offline, so sessions need to be planned around this gauge rather than treating Plaguelands as an unrestricted area.

Plague Intensity strengthens monsters while increasing the chance of better rewards. Chests drop less frequently than in normal areas, but Plaguelands can provide Celestial-or-higher items unavailable in normal areas and offers a higher chance of high-grade items. The trade-off is fewer chest drops in exchange for access to stronger reward opportunities.

Level 90 gear, recipes and rewards

Progression gains a new tier with the arrival of Level 90 gear and accessories. This equipment can be obtained from stages with an area level of 90 or higher. The new items can be traded on the Market and carry the Type C classification, giving them a place in the player economy.

The Cube receives synthesis recipes for Levels 80 to 90, along with Level 90 crafting recipes. The update also adds new Unique Stats to new and Level 90 items, as well as new applications for some existing Unique Stats.

Finally, the new skins are available as a free download for a limited time as compensation for post-launch service disruptions. The announcement says they will become paid items on September 17, without specifying the time, price, currency or regions concerned. Interested players therefore have a stated transition date, but not all the commercial details. For the complete list of changes,The full Steam announcement.
