The Battlefield 6 free trial on Steam has been extended until October 20, 2026 at 17:00 UTC. The Battlefield team says it has resolved the issue that prevented some players from accessing the trial on its first day, giving those affected another opportunity to try multiplayer.
The extension comes alongside a longer double XP weekend. For Steam players whose access was interrupted, the immediate benefit is more time to use the trial; for anyone still missing the “Multiplayer” tiles, the team has also outlined how to download the necessary files.
How to download the missing multiplayer files
In its October 16 announcement, the team directs players with missing multiplayer tiles back to the Steam client. Its instructions specifically mention former REDSEC players and people affected by the opening-day issue, though the procedure addresses the missing tiles rather than every possible access problem.
- Close Steam, then relaunch it.
- Open the Battlefield 6 page in the Steam store.
- Click “Play Game” to start downloading the multiplayer files.
The store button is the step the team identifies for starting that download. If you have already launched the trial but cannot see the multiplayer tiles, the instructions therefore take you back through Steam rather than asking you to find a download option inside the game.
You can also view and select the files to download from your Steam library: right-click Battlefield 6, then go to “DLC”. This provides a library route for checking the available files. The team's statement that the first-day issue is resolved should not be read as a guarantee that every remaining access problem has been fixed.

Double XP runs through Tuesday
The double XP weekend has also been extended until Tuesday, October 20. The announcement names career rank, weapons and Battle Pass tiers as the progression areas covered, so the extra time concerns progression as well as trial access.
Keep the two deadlines separate when planning a session. 17:00 UTC is the stated end time for the Steam trial; the double XP extension is announced through Tuesday without a specific closing hour. That Steam cutoff should therefore not be treated as the confirmed end time for the XP bonus.
For players returning after the opening-day disruption, the practical next step is to download the multiplayer files if the tiles remain absent. The trial remains subject to conditions and restrictions, and its period may vary by platform: the October 20, 17:00 UTC deadline applies to Steam.
