Firaxis announced the next step for Civilization VII on September 5. Civilization VII update 1.5.0 is scheduled for September, but the studio has not announced an exact release date. The patch will add the True Start Location Earth map and new Voronoi map types, alongside adjustments to resources, diplomacy, the interface and quality-of-life features. The official post also presents the projects planned after this update.

The September update has a window, not a full schedule

Version 1.5.0 is currently the only immediate confirmed milestone for Civilization VII. Firaxis has mentioned a new generation of resources, improvements to diplomacy and interface changes, but the complete list of fixes and adjustments has not yet been published.

That leaves an important distinction for players: the next update has a target month, while its precise contents and launch day are still pending. Firaxis also says it wants to focus more of its efforts on longer-term content projects after this release. The September patch is therefore the next concrete step, but not yet a complete roadmap for the fixes that will follow.

Arc of Tomorrow will extend the progression into the Atomic Age

Among those future projects, Arc of Tomorrow is set to introduce a fourth age to Civilization VII’s progression: the Atomic Age, roughly spanning 1950 to 2050. Firaxis is also announcing expanded nuclear gameplay, multilateral agreements, new tools for managing empires and additional interactions with city-states.

The planned content includes proxy wars, major cinematic works and manufactured goods. A first playtest cycle is scheduled for later in 2026 through the Firaxis Feature Workshop. Firaxis has not yet provided the date of that session or explained how registration will work.

Earthrise remains linked to the 2027 projects

Presented as the first announced expansion for Civilization VII, Earthrise will focus on the space race and missions across the solar system. Firaxis connects its development with projects planned for 2027, but has not confirmed a precise release date. The announced roadmap does not add a detailed launch schedule.

For now, update 1.5.0 is the only Civilization VII release players can place within a defined month, even though its exact date remains unknown. Arc of Tomorrow, its playtest and Earthrise are further away, and the features announced for these projects may still change during development.
