ELDEN RING patch 1.17 has been available on Steam since August 27, 2026, and installing it is required for online play. The update also prepares the Tarnished Pack, announced for August 28 at 00:00 CEST (07:00 JST and 15:00 PDT). The patch and the content release are separate steps.
Before joining a multiplayer session, Steam players should confirm that both App Ver. 1.17 and Regulation Ver. 1.17 are displayed in-game. The check is specific to the current PC rollout; the announcement does not detail equivalent availability for other platforms.
The Tarnished Pack adds classes, mounts and invasions
The announced pack introduces two starting classes during character creation: Idus Knight and Heavy Knight. Their associated equipment can also be obtained from merchants or in the world. New weapons are mentioned, but their complete list has not been provided.
Torrent will receive three planned appearances: Tree Sentinel, Silver of Caria and Funereal Night. These options change only the spectral steed’s appearance, and each can be switched at a Site of Grace after it has been obtained.
Two NPC invasion events are also planned, one in Caelid and one in Leyndell, Royal Capital. The Leyndell event will not occur once the area has progressed to Leyndell, Ashen Capital. In the Realm of Shadow, some treasures will be replaced by higher-ranked items or other rewards; items already collected will remain unchanged.
What patch 1.17 changes
The update adjusts several weapons, along with Parry, Storm Wall, Thops’s Barrier, sorceries and incantations. It also fixes or modifies some PvP interactions.
Two Great Katana issues are addressed: their critical-hit power against large enemies and the possibility of parrying their jumping attacks. On PC, the patch fixes mouse camera control during NPC conversations and an issue that reset keyboard-and-mouse settings.
Release details still missing
The Tarnished Pack’s price, editions and pricing structure have not been specified. Its Steam schedule is confirmed, but the announcement gives no details about PlayStation, Xbox or other platforms. The notes likewise do not establish the practical in-game impact of every balancing change.
