Fallout 76’s Xbox Series test server opens on August 26, 2026, to eligible Xbox Insiders. Access is limited to players who own the game or have an active Game Pass subscription. Xbox Wire explains the test procedure and its limitations in its official announcement.
The Public Test Server uses a native Xbox Series X|S version targeting 60 frames per second on both consoles. Xbox Series X also targets 4K, while VRR is planned for both models. These features require a compatible display and do not guarantee a consistent frame rate.
Test progression stays separate from the live game
Each participant receives a copy of a character from the online game, including its weapons, armor, items and C.A.M.P. Progression remains separate from the regular server: it cannot be transferred there and does not persist between test cycles.
The Atomic Shop and seasonal content are disabled. Located near Vault 76, the PTS Locker can provide mods, ammunition and weapons depending on the elements submitted for feedback. Test content is temporary and limited to English.
How to access the Xbox Series PTS
On an Xbox Series X|S, open the Xbox Insider Hub app, select Previews > Fallout 76 (Public Test Server), then choose Join. If the app is not installed, it can be downloaded from the Store through the official Xbox Insider page.
Once signed up, Xbox Insider Hub redirects to the Store so Fallout 76 (Public Test Server) can be installed. If an error appears when selecting Show in Store, Bethesda recommends waiting 15 minutes before trying again. Access still depends on owning the game or having an active Game Pass subscription.
Bugs can be reported on the Bethesda Studios Discord, particularly in the #server-rôles channel, which identifies the spaces dedicated to the PTS.
