Modern Warfare 4 campaign early access is available from October 16, 2026, Call of Duty Staff has announced. An eligible digital preorder or prepurchase of either the Standard Digital Edition or the Vault Edition grants access to the entire campaign before the full launch on October 23.
According to the Call of Duty announcement, that includes all 16 missions. Players can work through the complete story during the early-access period, rather than reach a cutoff after its opening missions.
The digital Standard Edition includes the full campaign
For anyone choosing an edition specifically to start the campaign early, the Standard Digital Edition qualifies. The Vault Edition also grants access, but upgrading is unnecessary for this benefit. That shared entitlement concerns the campaign; it does not establish that the editions have identical contents overall.
The publisher lists campaign early access on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5, Battle.net, Steam and Nintendo Switch 2. The stated eligibility condition is a digital preorder or prepurchase. This platform list does not establish the commercial availability of each offer in France.
16 missions ahead of the October 23 launch
The campaign takes players to the Korean Peninsula, Paris, New York and Mumbai. Those locations outline the story’s geographical reach, while the 16-mission count describes the campaign included in early access. It is not an estimate of how many hours completing it will take.
The campaign’s early-access period runs until the full launch on October 23. DMZ has a separate opening date: its early access is announced for October 20 onward. Starting the campaign on October 16 therefore does not also grant immediate access to DMZ. No opening times or time zones are specified for these dates.
Campaign unlocks carry into Multiplayer and DMZ
Campaign progression also unlocks rewards for use in Multiplayer and DMZ at the full launch. The announced base operators are Cho, Dallas, Luca, Oh-Ji, Kal, Dunn, West and Park.

That gives story progression a benefit beyond the campaign itself, with unlocks intended for the other modes once the game fully launches. Their announced availability is October 23; the earlier DMZ opening does not come with a promise that campaign rewards will already be usable there on October 20.
The edition choice is straightforward if early campaign access is the deciding factor: the eligible digital Standard Edition already includes it. Players planning to move into DMZ should keep its separate opening date in mind, with campaign rewards scheduled for the full launch.
