To advance through the RuneScape: Dragonwilds tutorial, cut trees with a Stone Axe to get the 50 Ash Logs Zanik requests; this is faster than picking up wood from the ground. You’ll also need Rune Essence and runes crafted at a Rune Altar.
Find Rune Essence
Look for Rune Essence on the ground beneath glowing floating rocks near Zanik’s camp or elsewhere in Ashenfall, then mine it with a pickaxe. The same tool can mine rocky blocks and other mineral deposits.
Open the Journal with J. Its Resources section describes deposits, while Recipes lists discovered recipes and their required resources. At a Crafting Table, select a recipe to see its materials. The inventory displays the quantity of each resource; an opaque icon means you have the required resources, while a translucent icon means some are missing.
Keep your tools in working order as you gather. They wear down with use and eventually break; repair them at a Crafting Table in Repair mode.
Craft runes and cast Axtral Projection
Build a Rune Altar from the Build menu, craft Air and Astral runes, then return to Zanik. She gives you a Spellbook and teaches you Axtral Projection.
To cast it, open the spell wheel with Q, choose Axtral Projection, then click again near a line of trees. On a controller, LB opens the spell menu by default; controls can be remapped. The official Steam description also says that powers tied to Ashenfall’s Anima can fell trees instantly with a spectral axe and make mining deposits explode.
