The Sims 4 crossplay: what the Gallery and each platform actually allow

If you want to play The Sims 4 with someone on another machine, the answer is straightforward: the game has no official multiplayer mode between PC, Mac, PlayStation and Xbox. It is available on several platforms, but each player runs a separate solo game.

The Gallery lets players share Sims, households and lots. It does not let you join a friend's save, manage the same family or synchronize progress in real time.

The Sims 4 is available on several platforms, but that does not mean it offers a shared multiplayer game.

The Sims 4 does not support crossplay multiplayer

There is no menu for inviting a PC player from PlayStation, joining an Xbox household from Mac or sharing one save with another player. The Sims 4 remains a solo life simulation, despite online features such as the Gallery.

That distinction matters when buying another version. You can publish a house, household or Sim, and another player can download it for use in their own game. The two stories remain separate.

Sharing applies to creations, not to a session played by multiple people.

What works across the listed platforms

EA lists The Sims 4 for PC, Mac, Xbox and PlayStation. This identifies the supported platforms, not compatibility between players. A console version may receive comparable updates and expansions while keeping separate account, purchase and save rules.

GoalWhat you can doLimitation
Play togetherNo official multiplayer sessionYou cannot invite someone into your household
Share a SimPublish the household in the GalleryThe other player uses it in their own save
Move from PC to MacUse the same EA account and copy the necessary filesSaves do not automatically sync through the EA cloud
Move from PC to consoleBuy or install content for that platformPurchases, creations and saves may remain platform-specific

The Gallery is therefore the genuine social feature to use when you want to find another player's creations. On PC or Mac, open it from its dedicated icon, search by EA ID or hashtag, then check the pack filters before downloading.

A household published in the Gallery can be retrieved by another player without creating shared progress.

The wrong EA account can make it seem as though crossplay or the Gallery is not working. Before moving a game or buying an expansion, confirm which identity is active on each device.

  1. Open your EA account settings and note the email address linked to The Sims 4.
  2. Check the PlayStation Network, Xbox or EA app account connected to that identity.
  3. Launch The Sims 4 on the second machine and open the Gallery.
  4. Search for your EA ID or publish an easily identifiable test household.
  5. Download it into a new save before changing your main game.

If the household does not appear, check the internet connection, signed-in account and privacy restrictions first. Do not delete the old save or link a new platform at random: changing accounts can make purchases and creations harder to recover.

The Gallery transfers a creation, not the story built around it. A downloaded Sim may retain their appearance, traits and some household elements, but not another player's relationships, career, money or neighborhood state.

Saves require particular care when moving from PC to Mac. EA's official FAQ says that save files must be copied manually, notably from the Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4 folder. Make a complete backup and rename the old folder instead of overwriting it immediately.

Moving to a console requires still more caution. EA specifies that content purchases are tied to the platform, while save files and creations may remain specific to their original platform. Buying The Sims 4 on PlayStation or Xbox is not a guaranteed way to recover an entire PC game.

Check expansions and purchases before paying

Expansions do not add crossplay. The official announcement for the Bridgerton collaboration presents content for The Sims 4 but does not mention a cooperative mode, lobby or shared progression between platforms. The EA page is dated 2026-05-14.

On PC and Mac, use the same EA account to find compatible purchases in the EA app. Between a computer and a console, check the content separately in the platform's store. An expansion being compatible with The Sims 4 does not mean it will automatically transfer to another platform family.

The Sims' social activities do not replace a multiplayer mode between real players.

A short test can show whether you want to share a creation or are looking for a real online game. It can also prevent an unnecessary second purchase.

  • Have each player open The Sims 4 on their platform.
  • Publish a household or room with a unique name.
  • Search for it from the other account using the EA ID.
  • Download it into a test save.
  • Confirm that each person can play separately; no invitation will let either player join the same game.
