Counter-Strike 2’s October 14, 2026 update makes the free and chase cameras usable while a demo is paused. Server administrators using round backup files also need to account for a new mandatory launch parameter.

In the official Counter-Strike 2 patch notes, Valve announces click-and-drag camera controls, a download progress bar for demos and replays, and fixes for minor issues when seeking through recordings.

Move the camera without advancing the demo

The free and chase cameras now remain usable during a paused demo. That lets you change the viewpoint while keeping the recorded action at the same moment, rather than advancing playback to reposition the camera. For match review, the useful distinction is between moving through the recording and moving around the scene: pausing can hold the former still while you adjust the latter.

Camera controls also switch to click-and-drag. This changes how you manipulate the viewpoint in the demo and replay viewer; the paused-camera feature specifically concerns recorded action, rather than camera controls during a match being played.

The download progress bar gives viewers a visible indication of how much of a demo or replay has downloaded. It adds feedback while waiting for a recording, without establishing any improvement in download speed. Separately, Valve reports fixes for minor problems when seeking to another position in a demo file.

Round backups require a server launch parameter

Round backup files now require -allow_round_backup_files when starting the game server. Administrators who use these files should check their server’s launch options and ensure that the parameter is present.

This is a condition for using server-side round backups, separate from the viewer’s camera controls. The practical task belongs in the server startup configuration: adjusting how you navigate a recording does not address the backup-file requirement.

AUG animations, radio commands and Workshop Tools

The AUG’s standing and crouching reload animations have been adjusted to better match its new reload duration. This entry concerns the animations, so it should not be read as an announcement of a further reduction in reload time. The distinction matters when assessing whether the patch changes weapon timing or aligns the visible reload with that timing.

Allowed radio commands now have an explicit list. Valve also adds the toolsskybox_occluder tool material to the CS2 Workshop Tools and announces stability improvements for Vulkan rendering. The Vulkan change is a stability update, with no measured performance gain announced.

For reviewing a frozen moment, the concrete benefit is control over the viewpoint while playback stays paused. For servers using round backups, the immediate action is to check the launch configuration for the required parameter.
