Grounded 2’s Rot and Ruin update is planned for this fall, bringing the Woodpile adventure area, the Centipede boss and new building and equipment systems. The preview published by Xbox Wire on October 20, 2026 does not give an exact release date.

The Potato Beetle Buggy is another substantial addition. This rideable mount combines combat abilities with resource transport and construction support, giving it a role both on expeditions and around a base.

Woodpile brings termites, with Centipede joining the boss roster

The new Woodpile area will be home to Worker and Soldier termites, as well as the Termite King. New O.G.R.R. variants are also planned. These additions give players more territory to explore and new creatures to encounter.

Centipede is separately announced as a new boss. Its arrival adds another encounter to Grounded 2, though the announcement does not establish its difficulty or the conditions for reaching it.

The Potato Beetle Buggy can fight and supply construction

Xbox Wire describes the Potato Beetle Buggy as larger than the Ladybug Buggy and designed for close combat. It will also be able to launch projectiles in front of it and use an ability called Healing Roar. The announcement does not specify projectile range or ability cooldowns, so its effectiveness alongside other Buggies remains to be seen.

Its construction features have a practical purpose: the Potato Beetle Buggy will be able to carry resources and supply materials to building blueprints. For players developing a base, that means the mount can contribute materials to construction as well as transport supplies. Its usefulness will therefore extend beyond its combat abilities.

Painting adds building customization, while Bismuth upgrades gear

The Painting system will let players craft paint and apply it with the Splotcher. Paintable structures include walls, floors, roofs, stairs and doors, alongside other building pieces. Players will be able to customize several parts of a structure, from its surfaces to its entrances.

Equipment progression gets a separate addition through Bismuth and the Yoking Press. These will allow weapons and armor to be upgraded to higher Tiers. Upgrade costs and limits have not been specified. New SCA.B themes, collectible miniatures and new stations are also included in the announced content.

Rot and Ruin pairs new exploration and combat encounters with additions for base building and equipment progression. It is a content update ahead of Grounded 2’s version 1.0, planned for 2027; the fall release window applies to Rot and Ruin, rather than the full release.
