Permafrost’s October 10, 2026 update was announced as available with fixes for four crash triggers, including joining a co-op session while another player holds a ranged weapon. It also changes server browsing and keeps quest items in the world after pickup.

Crash fixes cover joining games and using items

The notes published on Steam announce fixes for crashes triggered by:

  • Skipping the intro video.
  • Joining a game while another player is holding a ranged weapon.
  • Using a consumable held in hand.
  • Reloading a campfire on the world map.

The co-op fix concerns a specific moment: someone joins a session while a player already there holds a ranged weapon. That distinction matters if a crash interrupted joining a friend’s game, because the notes identify the circumstances addressed rather than announcing a general resolution of co-op instability.

The other fixes cover the opening video, a consumable used directly from the player’s hand and a campfire on the world map. These are developer-reported corrections; the editorial team has not tested their effectiveness. They should not be read as a guarantee that every crash has been resolved.

The update also fixes stuttering caused by stair building pieces. This targets a named source of interruptions. DLSS and FSR have also been updated, but the integrated versions, compatible graphics cards and performance effects are not specified. These updates therefore do not establish a particular frame-rate gain on a player’s system.

Friends’ worlds move up the server list

The friends-only server list now prioritizes friends’ worlds and displays more servers. Both the ordering and the number of visible results change, affecting how players find a world before joining it. This browsing adjustment sits alongside the crash fix for entering a session: the patch addresses both finding a game and a specific interruption during connection.

Quest items are no longer removed from the world when picked up. The team expects this change to prevent some quest blockers by leaving those items in place after collection. The pickup behavior is the announced change; preventing progression blockers remains the developers’ stated expectation.

The TR-22 RUDI pistol now counts toward “Craft Any Weapon,” so crafting it qualifies for that task. Fast travel points are also described as easier to spot, though the notes do not specify the visual changes involved.

Control prompts gain a progress circle

A progress circle has been added to control prompts, and the notes announce a fix for crafting tooltips when using a controller. The controller models concerned are not specified. The tooltip correction applies to crafting with a controller, while the progress circle changes the feedback shown in control prompts.

The announced fixes target the listed crash triggers and ensure the TR-22 RUDI counts toward its crafting task. Quest item persistence may also help prevent progression blockers, but the team says work on quest blockers and co-op issues continues, without announcing a timetable for further fixes.
