Phasmophobia is set to receive its Resonance update in late November 2026, adding ways to ask ghosts to interact with objects or make their presence known. The update will also change the Sound Sensor and move the game to Unity 6.

In its Development Preview #22 announcement, published on November 2, the developer gave no specific release day or time. It also confirmed that the character visual overhaul, previously planned for Resonance, will arrive separately.

New ways to call out to ghosts

Players will be able to use the new ghost commands through voice recognition or text mode. In VR, those using text mode will also be able to access them from their sanity watch.

The in-game journal will gain a page listing the phrases available for voice recognition. That gives players a place to check the wording during an investigation as they try to prompt a ghost to interact with objects or reveal its presence.

The Sound Sensor will display detected sounds on its map when they come from the same floor. It will distinguish between one-off and continuous sounds, giving teams more information about the activity picked up by the device.

Random maps and moderation changes

Resonance will let players choose several maps to create their own pool for a random selection. Quick selection buttons grouped by map size will also be available. A team can therefore leave the final choice to chance while limiting the draw to locations it has selected.

The update will introduce in-game warnings for certain violations of the code of conduct. Actions considered serious enough can still lead to an immediate ban. Players will also be notified when a report they made has resulted in action against the person they reported.

Xbox Play Anywhere integration is another part of the announcement. The developer says Xbox owners will be able to play on compatible devices, including PC and Xbox Series X|S.

Unity 6 arrives without the character overhaul

The move to Unity 6 will accompany the Resonance content update. The developer expects fixes and improvements from the transition, but says performance gains will need to be assessed after release. For players, that leaves the effect on an individual machine uncertain until the update is available.

The separate character visual update includes more than 30 new cosmetics and a redesigned store interface. The developer plans to announce its release date later. Meanwhile, the overhaul of 42 Edgefield Road is planned for later in 2026, and the studio is targeting late 2027 for version 1.0.

Resonance thus has a defined release window and a range of announced changes, but the character overhaul will follow on its own schedule. The practical performance impact of Unity 6 remains to be seen after release.
