GSC Game World has expanded the modding toolkit for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl. Announced on September 1, 2026, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Zone Kit Phase 2 lets creators assemble stories and quests visually, add text and dialogue audio, and test their work without leaving the editor.

This is an update for community-made content, not a new official campaign or a playable expansion developed by GSC Game World.

Stories, objectives and dialogue move into one workspace

Zone Kit now allows modders to write, edit, insert or remove the text shown in the game. The same project can also contain added, removed or customized audio, including sounds, sound effects and voices linked to dialogue.

Putting events, objectives, text and audio together gives creators the basic structure for more ambitious narrative mods. It does not guarantee a finished adventure, however: the quality, length and polish of each project will depend on the community teams that build and release it.

Phase 2 also adds saving and loading for mod data. Authors can pause a project and return to it across multiple sessions instead of recreating work they have already prepared.

Play In Editor cuts down testing time

The new Play In Editor function launches a mod directly from Zone Kit. A creator can check a text change, sound cue or trigger in the same environment where it was edited, reducing the need to repeatedly switch between separate tools.

Phase 2 also supports mods built around .cfg files. The announcement does not define every compatibility limit between that format and the toolkit's other features, so the practical scope of those projects is not yet fully clear.

Players will not see an immediate change in the base game. The impact will arrive only through completed and sufficiently polished mods that creators choose to publish.

Phase 2 continues the Update 2.0 roadmap

Update 2.0, published on August 20, 2026, had already introduced narrative scripting, audio, localization and configuration-file loading to the Zone Kit roadmap. Phase 2 extends that direction with a more integrated workflow for producing and testing narrative content.

GSC Game World has not announced a separate access date, potential price, terms of use or distribution system for Zone Kit or completed projects. Compatibility with creations made during Phase 1 also remains unconfirmed.

official Update 2.0 patch notes

For modders, Phase 2 makes stories, quests and dialogue easier to organize and verify in one place. For players, the official S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 campaign remains unchanged for now; what comes next depends on the projects the community completes and publishes.
