Valve released SteamOS 3.8.26 Beta on August 28, 2026 for the Steam Deck’s Beta and Preview channels. The update focuses on specific bugs rather than a broad performance upgrade or a move to the stable channel.

Stable-channel users have no update to install. Beta and Preview users can apply the patch if their hardware or usage matches one of the affected cases. Other machine-related news is available through the JEU.VIDEO internal search, while SteamOS coverage can be found with the SteamOS 3.8.26 search.

Rendering and Desktop Mode fixes

Valve has corrected a graphics-composition issue that could occur in some games when FSR was enabled. The announcement gives no frame-rate measurements, so this is a targeted bug fix rather than evidence of a general performance improvement.

The update also addresses a VR rendering problem in certain games built with Unreal Engine 5, where the right eye could appear empty. That should help affected titles, but it does not amount to a wider overhaul of Steam Deck VR compatibility.

In Desktop Mode, Firefox could occasionally freeze when used in full-screen mode. SteamOS 3.8.26 fixes that behavior without changing Firefox’s feature set.

Bluetooth, resolutions and other devices

The Bluetooth fix concerns the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller (v1). Valve is also improving support for configurations below 640x480, particularly with certain external displays or specific hardware. No new standard resolution or change to the Steam Deck’s integrated screen is mentioned.

The changelog additionally covers Wi-Fi on the MSI Claw A1M and the battery-level display on the Lenovo Legion Go. The Legion Go fix changes the value shown on screen, not the battery’s real capacity or endurance. These entries confirm that the beta’s fixes extend to compatible devices beyond the Steam Deck.

Finally, Valve has fixed resume after suspend when an SD card is in use. The announcement does not identify the affected card models, so the fix cannot be treated as a guarantee for every SD card.

Who should move to the Beta channel?

To switch channels, open Settings > System > System Update Channel, then select Beta or Preview. The change is most relevant to users encountering one of the listed problems. If the system is already working correctly, the stable channel remains the more suitable choice.

SteamOS 3.8.26 Beta brings useful corrections for narrowly defined situations, but its value depends on the device and the bug involved. Valve has not announced a general performance gain or a date for the next stable release.
