The Wreck Runners playtest is available on Xbox Series X|S from September 4, 2026, at 5 p.m. UTC through September 9 at 5 p.m. UTC. This test offers a preview of some content planned for the September update. Players can form an expedition with up to three friends and explore the new features as a crew.
How to join the Xbox playtest
Open the Xbox Insider Hub app, installing it from the Store if necessary. Select Previews > Wreck Runners, choose Join and wait for registration to finish. The app will then redirect you to the Store to install Wreck Runners Playtest.
The session ends on Wednesday, September 9, at 10 a.m. PT, or 5 p.m. UTC. This deadline applies to the playtest only; it does not announce the release date of the full September update.
Temples, customization and new threats
The Temples introduce new locations to explore and search through in the Triangle. Players can also customize their Runners’ colors, making crew members easier to distinguish during expeditions.
Xbox Wire also mentions a new underwater enemy, although its behavior has not yet been detailed. Paranormal Progression will add new choices during expeditions, while Trustwell Lost Salvage rewards players who venture beyond familiar areas. The preview also includes new dangers and interface improvements.
The build supports 15 additional languages, including French. Participants can report unclear text, unusual translations, untranslated sections or hard-to-read elements by holding the Xbox button and selecting Report a problem, Games and Wreck Runners Playtest.
The September update still has no release date
The official launch date for the September update remains unknown, and the features shown in this test may change before deployment. Confirmed access is currently limited to this Xbox Series X|S playtest.
The test is therefore a free way to preview the upcoming content until September 9 at 5 p.m. UTC. It does not provide any information about the price of the full game or a possible future edition.
