In EA Sports FC 26 Career Mode, squad stability starts when you create your save. Add the leagues where you plan to recruit, then target players who fill a specific role. A star who does not suit your system may contribute less than a lower-rated player who immediately solves a problem.
Overall rating is only one part of the decision. Two options for every position, monitored contracts and regular minutes for young players reduce the number of choices made in an emergency.

Open the leagues you will actually use
When starting a Manager Career, you can add up to five additional leagues. Choose the competitions where your targets play: players in those leagues display season data and statistics that can be used in scout reports.
- Enable your league, then the markets where you want to recruit.
- Filter by position, age, role and wage budget.
- Check minutes played, average rating, goals or assists according to the position.
- Compare two profiles for the same role before opening negotiations.
- Keep a loan option and a free agent in mind for every urgent position.

Begin with your starting eleven. A quick winger will not repair fragile build-up play, just as a highly rated striker cannot replace a ball-winning midfielder. Define the need precisely: a box-to-box midfielder, an attacking full-back for rotation or a target striker.
Recruit for the job, not the number
A scouting report should answer three questions: can the player help immediately, in which role, and who do they block in the squad? A rotation signing must accept irregular minutes. The successor to a key player should arrive before the contract situation becomes urgent.
| Need | What to check | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Rotation player | Versatility, form, wages | Loan or sensible purchase. |
| Successor to a key player | Tactical role, age, development | Recruit early and share minutes. |
| Young player to develop | Potential, position, access to matches | Loan them out if they are blocked. |
| Emergency solution | Availability and compatibility | Prefer a free agent or a loan. |

Monitor contracts as soon as they enter their final year. Players are not always ready to extend immediately, while AI clubs target cases closer to expiry more actively. Decide early whether to extend, sell or prepare an identified replacement.
Match development to the player's role
Update 1.5.0 adds dynamic development plans. The game selects a plan based on the closest tactical role, then adjusts it when your tactics change. A striker used as a target player therefore receives a plan linked to that role.
Do not change the plan after every match. Review it after a lasting change to tactics, position or player status. Retraining a young winger is also difficult to justify if no minutes await them in the new role.

- Young starter: keep their natural role and gradually increase their game time.
- Experienced substitute: prioritise immediate usefulness.
- Blocked prospect: seek a loan with guaranteed minutes.
- Versatile signing: establish a primary role first.
Set up rotation before the schedule tightens
Create two team sheets during the first month. Keep a first-choice team for the biggest fixtures and a rotation side that retains four or five starters depending on the opponent. Using eleven substitutes at once often disrupts the team's understanding.

Before three closely scheduled matches, decide which one will use rotation. Early cup rounds and less dangerous opponents are useful for giving a young player a start or restoring a substitute's form. Keep a spine in the team: goalkeeper, centre-back, playmaking midfielder or hold-up forward.
An injury should not force a tactical revolution. First replace the lost function: cover, creativity, aerial play or runs in behind. Unexpected events can be adjusted for frequency and impact if you prefer a more controlled save.

Audit the squad every month
Each month, check players without minutes, critical contracts, roles without cover and young players who could be loaned out. This routine limits panic purchases after an injury or a poor run.
If your team plays possession football, high pressing, wing play or counter-attacking football, recruit compatible profiles. The Manager Market can change opposing clubs' tactics and create transfer opportunities. EA's Career Pitch Notes and the official Update 1.5.0 notes detail these features.

Frequently asked questions
How many leagues should you simulate for recruitment?
Enable only the markets that are useful to your project. You can add up to five additional leagues to your main competition.
Should you change every development plan?
No. Dynamic plans follow the tactical role. Change them mainly after a lasting change of system, position or status.
When should you loan out a young player you have signed?
Loan them out if access to regular minutes is blocked. A player bought during the current transfer window can also be placed on the loan list.
How do you avoid losing a key player on a free transfer?
Decide in their final contract year: extension, sale or succession plan. AI clubs become more aggressive as expiry approaches.
Where can you follow Career Mode changes?
EA publishes updates in its Career Pitch Notes and its update notes.
