When starting EA Sports FC Ultimate Team, build a balanced XI first. A highly rated player does not make up for a poorly balanced team. Open Objectives before every session and spend your credits on the position that is genuinely holding you back.
Modes, campaigns and rewards change throughout the season. Always check the conditions and end date displayed in-game.
Building an easy-to-upgrade Ultimate Team squad
Chemistry is based on squad consistency and the links recognised by the game. Some campaign cards also have special links. EA states that Cornerstones cards receive an additional club link. Team of the Season cards also have customised chemistry.
To start, keep five to seven starters from the same league or nation. Link your goalkeeper and defence easily, then add just one exception to solve a specific need. Three exceptions quickly make the bench and future changes more complicated.
- Put every player in a position they can play.
- Stabilise the goalkeeper, centre-backs, midfield and striker.
- Replace the card lacking pace, stamina, defending or finishing in the situations where your moves break down.
- After a purchase, check chemistry and play two or three matches before making another change.
- Keep substitutes compatible with the core of the squad.
| Situation | Careful choice | Costly mistake |
|---|---|---|
| You are short of goals | Improve the finisher or midfielder creating the chances | Buy a star who unbalances the XI |
| You concede in transition | Prioritise a ball-winning midfielder or a more reliable defender | Change all four defenders at once |
| Your bench is useless | Choose profiles that cover a position and a tactical need | Stack incompatible attackers |

Turning Objectives into rewards
Objectives provide a solid foundation for a new club. Open their tile in Ultimate Team, then read the exact condition, required mode and reward. Foundations Objectives introduce the mode's key systems. They can also contribute to gradual Transfer Market access for new accounts.
Daily Objectives award Season Points and expire after 24 hours. Weekly Objectives offer a reward for each task and a group bonus. A missed week does not return. Season Objectives last until the end of the season. Live Objectives have their own deadline.
Combine two or three compatible conditions. A win using players from one nation can also complete a goal objective with a winger. Do not weaken your entire team for a small reward: repeated losses slow your progress in your chosen mode.

Choosing modes without spreading your matches too thin
Choose one main mode you can complete regularly. Add other modes only for a useful objective or reward. Season tiers progress with Season Points, but some require a final choice. Check your club before confirming.
Squad Battles gives you time to test a tactic and complete conditions. Rivals becomes more useful once your XI is stable. Live events, tournaments and Gauntlets may have entry requirements: read them before buying cards to take part.
Campaigns can offer rewards through Objectives, SBCs, Evolutions and events. EA has announced earnable tokens in Rivals, Squad Battles, Rush, live events, certain Objectives and certain SBCs. This distribution depends on the period. Check the mode indicated by the interface before you begin.

Spending Ultimate Team credits in the right place
Your first upgrade should fix a repeated weakness. If you lose the ball in midfield, look for a profile that is safer under pressure. If you create chances without scoring, target the striker or the passing around them. A high overall rating guarantees neither the right position nor the right role.
SBCs exchange club cards for players, packs or customisation items. Before submitting a starter or rare card, check that the reward will fit into your rotation. Newness or expiry filters help identify short SBCs, but they do not justify sacrificing useful cards through fear of missing an offer.
For an Evolution, check eligibility, challenges, upgrades and the effect on your team. FC 26 lets you preview its requirements and upgrades before using the consumable. Compare two candidates and choose a card already in your rotation.

The ten-minute routine before you play
- Open Objectives and pin those you can complete in the planned mode.
- Check the deadline: daily, weekly, campaign or SBC.
- Check the requirements of a live event before changing your team.
- Check positions and the bench. Change only one or two elements.
- Claim rewards after the session and compare a new card with its starter.

Frequently asked questions
Why does a new card not always improve my team ?
Check its position, chemistry, role and the weakness it needs to fix. A less prestigious but well-integrated card can be more useful.
What should I do if the Transfer Market is locked ?
Complete your account's Foundations Objectives and respect the waiting period required by EA. Access is gradual for new accounts.
Do I need to complete every daily Objective ?
No. Prioritise those that combine with your mode and other tasks. They expire after 24 hours.
When should I use an Evolution ?
Use it on a player already in your rotation. Preview the requirements, challenges and upgrades before consuming the Evolution.
Which mode should I start in to complete Objectives ?
Squad Battles lets you test the team and complete conditions at your own pace. Move to Rivals when your XI is stable.
Which upgrade should I buy first ?
Improve the position causing your most frequent mistakes. Do not spend your credits on one big overall rating.
How do I avoid wasting players in an SBC ?
Keep your starters and rare cards if the reward will not join your team for the long term. Also check the expiry date.
Where can I follow changes to rewards and events ?
