The free Edgerunners 2 update for Cyberpunk 2077 is available, according to Xbox Wire’s announcement on October 22, 2026. It adds a quest set before the anime’s events, dual-wielding handguns and integrated mod installation.
The announcement also introduces Xbox Play Anywhere, allowing a single purchase to cover Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC, with saves transferring between them.
Wakako sends V to Night City Prison
The new quest begins with a gig from Wakako and leads V to Weak Kingsley at Night City Prison. Its story takes place before the events of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, giving the anime connection a playable chapter within Night City.
Weak’s outfit and his Coronation revolver also join the game. The announcement does not specify the requirements for starting the gig or how to obtain these items, so players should not assume they are automatically awarded together.
The connection extends to the radio. HKGN 102.FM gathers official tracks from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and Edgerunners 2, bringing music from both series into the game alongside the new story content.
Dual-wielding and new ways to customize V
V can now wield a pistol or revolver in each hand. This adds a combat option for those handgun types; the announcement does not extend that capability to every weapon category.
For visual customization, glamdocs operate at five locations across Night City. They offer 40 cyberware styles in various colors, letting players change the appearance of V’s implants. These are presented as appearance options, with no announced statistical effect.
The update also adds 20 hairstyles and several clothing sets. Together with the cyberware styles and Weak’s outfit, these additions give players more ways to change V’s look.
Browse and install supported mods in the game
mod.io integration introduces a Mods panel where players can browse and directly install supported community content. The practical change is that discovery and installation happen inside Cyberpunk 2077.
The feature is announced as cross-platform, but that does not establish universal compatibility for existing mods. The supported content offered through the panel is the relevant selection when choosing what to install; the announcement does not detail its full catalog or compatibility restrictions.
Xbox Play Anywhere connects console and PC
The announced purchase benefit covers Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC. Players moving between those environments can access the game through a single purchase and transfer their saves, carrying their progress from console to PC or back again.
That benefit applies within the named Xbox ecosystem; it does not establish purchase rights on other storefronts. For players using both Xbox environments, shared access and save transfers are the concrete benefit alongside the free Edgerunners 2 update.
