Mafia III: Definitive Edition has received a Steam update with announced fixes for campaign blockers, lost achievement progress and display issues. Published on October 9, 2026, the official Mafia Family Business #6 announcement says the update is available, with patch notes dated October 8.

Announced fixes for stalled missions and lost progress

The official notes announce fixes for progression blockers in Get Enzo Conti, Kill Tommy Marcano and the epilogue. These changes target obstacles that could prevent players from continuing the campaign, making them relevant to anyone whose story progression stopped at those points. These are publisher-announced fixes; their effectiveness has not been tested by the editorial team.

A separate announced correction addresses achievement progress being lost when the game was closed during a session. The distinction matters for players working towards achievements: the fix concerns the loss of tracked progress, but it comes without a promise to restore progress that has already disappeared.

The notes also announce fixes for problems after completing Stones Unturned. Surveillance data could disappear from the map, while junction boxes stopped functioning properly. This correction concerns continued play after the DLC, extending the progression-related fixes beyond the named campaign missions.

New FPS caps and windowed display changes

The settings gain frame-rate caps of 120, 144, 180 and 240 FPS. These are limits players can select, rather than performance targets the update guarantees. Selecting a cap sets the frame-rate ceiling; it does not establish that the game will run at that speed.

Players can also disable the game window’s borders, and the notes report improved handling of multiple monitors in windowed mode. These changes give players a border setting alongside adjustments to how the game handles a windowed setup across multiple displays.

An announced physics correction applies to a specific combination: windowed mode with Vsync enabled. It addresses problems under that condition, so it should not be read as a blanket claim about smoother performance across every display configuration.

The lighting changes concern its appearance during driving. The announced increase in draw distance covers lights on buildings, streetlights and gas stations, with the aim of reducing their late appearance in the scenery.

An anniversary update for the Definitive Edition

The announcement marks ten years since the original Mafia III debuted on October 7, 2016. That date belongs to the original game, rather than the release of the Definitive Edition.

The post also recaps what the Definitive Edition includes: the main game, Faster, Baby!, Stones Unturned, Sign of the Times, the Family Kick-Back Pack and the Judge, Jury & Executioner Weapons Pack. These are existing contents of the edition, not additions introduced by this update.

For Steam players affected by the listed campaign blockers or post-DLC problems, the announced corrections target obstacles to continuing their game. The display options offer more control over the window and frame-rate limit, without establishing a measured performance increase.
