The Enigmasaur is announced for November 6 in ARK: Survival Ascended, closing ARK Fantastic Tames Season 1. In Community Crunch 528, published on October 17, Studio Wildcard reveals a shapeshifter that can blend in among other species and retain learned abilities as it changes form.
Taming means keeping up with its transformations
The Enigmasaur’s imitation is central to its announced taming process. Players must show it an already tamed creature of the species it is currently copying, then repeat that approach as it takes on other forms.
That gives an existing collection of tamed animals a direct role in the encounter. Recognizing the species being imitated is only part of the task: players also need a tamed member of that species to present to the Enigmasaur. As its appearance changes, the creature players must bring changes with it.
The dossier describes this matching process, but does not provide a complete step-by-step taming procedure.
A Rex with attacks that still stun
The creature’s morphic memory extends the transformation mechanic beyond appearances. According to its dossier, the Enigmasaur can retain learned abilities after changing shape, and it can access all of those abilities when it returns to its own form.
Wildcard illustrates this with a specific transformation: an Enigmasaur changes from a Pulmonoscorpius into a Rex, but its attacks continue to stun its prey. The ability survives the change of body, giving the Rex form a trait carried over from its previous shape.
The distinction matters because blending in among other species is only part of the announced mechanic. An ability acquired in one form can remain useful in another. The Pulmonoscorpius-to-Rex example shows how that can work; it does not establish that every creature ability can be combined freely.

Unreal Engine 5.8 is scheduled for October 28
Before the Enigmasaur’s planned arrival, Wildcard has scheduled ARK: Survival Ascended’s move to Unreal Engine 5.8 for October 28. The same announcement invites players to test the changes on The Island through the Steam Public Test Realm and report problems they encounter.
The studio also plans a PTR update for the week following the announcement, focused on optimizations that produced its largest GPU performance gains in internal testing. Those results are Wildcard’s own assessment, without published measurements establishing an expected improvement for a particular player’s hardware.
The Enigmasaur’s announced November 6 arrival introduces a creature whose transformations shape both taming and combat. Its appeal rests on the connection between those forms: players must respond to each imitation during taming, while learned abilities can persist beyond the shape that supplied them.
