The official YouTube channel for Atamoto’s Tanuki to Kitsune web manga has started streaming a new trailer for the TV anime adaptation. It introduces “Nikoichi!”, performed by Japanese all-female 3-piece band SILENT SIREN. The anime is scheduled to premiere in Japan on October 4 during TV Tokyo’s “Animori!” programming block, with the song’s digital release set for October 5, according to Crunchyroll News and Crunchyroll News.
The anime and song arrive on consecutive days
October 4 marks the Japanese TV premiere. The announcement gives no broadcast time or time zone, so the date is the confirmed scheduling detail currently available for TV Tokyo’s “Animori!” block.
“Nikoichi!” follows digitally on October 5. No music service, territory, price or release time is specified. A lyric video is planned for a later date on the official YouTube channel of SILENT SIREN’s label, YOUTHFUL TUNE; that publication date has not yet been announced. SILENT SIREN returns to anime tie-ins
“Nikoichi!” is SILENT SIREN’s first anime tie-in song in eight years. The band’s previous cited anime songs were “Sakura Saku Aoi Haru” and “Go Way!” in 2018. Its current lineup is Sumire Yoshida, Aina Yamauchi and Yukako Kurosawa.
From an X comic to a new TV adaptation
Atamoto publishes the original comic on X, while FrontierWorks handles its print edition in Japan. The series has reached 11 volumes and 3 picture books, and more than 1.3 million copies have been printed in Japan. That existing readership gives the TV adaptation a substantial domestic publication history before its broadcast debut.
Tanuki to Kitsune was already adapted into a web anime that streamed on YouTube in 2018. The new TV series is directed by Tommy Hino at Akatsuki Media Studio, with scripts by Rika Kihara.
A friendship set in the mountains
The story follows a slightly airheaded raccoon-dog and a slightly mischievous fox who live together in the mountains. They are close friends, and that relationship remains the central premise presented for the new adaptation.
For now, the Japanese premiere and the following day’s digital music release are the firm dates. The broadcast time, music platform and lyric-video schedule still need to be announced, but the anime’s launch window and SILENT SIREN’s return to anime music are already established.
