Small yellow-zone portals in Albion Online are becoming more frequent, but each expedition will yield less Fame and loot. Published on October 12, 2026, the Albion Online Dragonfire Patch 3 patch notes announce a reduction in their average spawn time from 45 to 15.5 minutes and a 30% cut to rewards in the Ancient Lands accessed through them.
The reward reduction applies only to small yellow-zone portals. Fame and loot from small red- and black-zone portals, and from medium and large portals, remain at their previous levels.
Small portals appear more often and unlock sooner
In yellow zones, small portals stay locked for 5 minutes instead of 15. Across yellow, red and black zones, their chance of spawning in a region rises from 25% to 33%, while the entry window after unlocking increases from 8 to 10 minutes. Small red- and black-zone portals therefore receive changes to availability and entry timing even though their rewards remain unchanged.
For yellow-zone expeditions, this means more opportunities to enter and less waiting for a portal to open. The compromise is lower rewards per instance. The shorter average spawn time alone does not establish whether Fame or loot per hour will improve: locating a portal and completing the expedition still affect the result.
Large portals also become more frequent, with their spawn chance increasing by 50%. That is a relative increase, rather than a final spawn probability of 50%.
Inside the Ancient Lands, monster health and damage decrease by 10% for small and medium portals, and by 20% for large portals. Small and medium islands also gain a mandatory quest requirement: players must kill the island’s Drake to finish the quest.

Maeve’s attacks ease, while dragon resets preserve progress
In the Dragon Sanctuary, Maeve summons two additional rocks instead of 3 below 40% health, with the maximum falling from six to 5. Primal Dragon Flame’s normal damage drops from 1250 to 1150, while its raw damage remains unchanged. The interval between Storm Spires increases from 45 to 55 seconds, giving players more time between those attacks.
Open-world dragons recover health to the last 20% threshold reached after a reset. In the official example, a dragon that resets at 72% health returns to 80%. An interrupted attempt therefore does not necessarily restore the dragon to full health; recovery depends on the threshold reached before the reset.
Their Might rewards increase by 150%, alongside this change to health recovery.
Mobile targeting modes start disabled
Mobile players can enable targeting modes under Settings → Controls → Auto-Targeting, then choose a mode in the HUD. The available options are All, Enemies, Party, Allies and Automatic. They are disabled by default, so players who want to use them must first switch them on.
Double Tap to Self-Cast is enabled by default. Players who prefer to turn it off can do so under Settings → Controls → General. These controls have different defaults and sit in separate settings menus.
Explosive Bolt damage falls and Plaguebringer’s cooldown increases
Explosive Bolt’s damage decreases from 130 to 119. Plaguebringer on the Rotcaller Staff has its cooldown extended from 30 to 35 seconds, adding 5 seconds between activations.
For small yellow-zone expeditions, the practical trade-off is more frequent access with lower rewards per run; the figures do not establish a better hourly return. On mobile, enabling the new targeting modes and checking the self-cast setting are the direct actions available to players.
