Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has received a free update that adds New Game+, allowing players to restart Eivor’s adventure while retaining their progression. The update also expands gear and rune upgrades and adds an optional way to calculate power.

Ubisoft says The Most Requested Update is available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC. Players can upgrade gear to Divine quality without owning the Dawn of Ragnarok expansion.

New Game+ unlocks after Holy Day

To access New Game+, players must complete Holy Day, the final quest in the Hamtunscire region. The mode then lets them restart the adventure while retaining their progression. Its difficulty adapts to that progression and increases each time the feature is used.

Ubisoft has not detailed everything that carries over, but revisiting previously claimed rewards has a new use. In New Game+, collecting gear already owned or interacting with a Book of Knowledge already acquired awards a piece of mithril. That gives those encounters a role in further upgrades during a replay.

Divine gear and rune upgrades

The update lets players upgrade gear to Divine quality, then raise Divine gear to level 27, using materials including mithril. Neither upgrade requires ownership of Dawn of Ragnarok, so players without the expansion can still pursue that higher gear quality.

Mithril is available beyond New Game+: Ubisoft also names Nilfheim and the mastery and river raid shops as sources. The material also matters for runes. The rune forge upgrades them in exchange for silver, while the new Superior tier requires mithril.

Ubisoft has also added more than 300 engravable runes, as detailed in the publisher's announcement.

For players managing a growing collection, a new stash in Ravensthorpe can hold gear and runes from the inventory. It gives those items a separate place to be stored as players work through the new upgrade options.

An optional change to power and console modes

Enhanced Progression Mode changes the power score calculation to account for gear, runes and mastery. It is optional, leaving players free to use the revised calculation or keep their current approach.

The update also adds the Master Assassin Naoe outfit to the inventory for free. On PS5 Pro, Ubisoft says Quality mode is enabled by default at 60 frames per second; a low-power mode runs at 30 frames per second on PS5 and PS5 Pro.

For a replay with progression carried forward, Holy Day remains the requirement for New Game+. The gear upgrades offer a separate way to improve Eivor’s equipment without the expansion.
