In Counter-Strike 2 Retakes, a bomb defuse can now finish instantly if enough round time remains and no active utility can prevent it. The change is described in the patch notes published by Valve on November 5, 2026.
Valve has also reduced freeze time and the delay before rounds restart in Retakes. The notes do not give the size of either reduction, so the time saved per round is unclear.

When a defuse finishes instantly
The instant finish depends on both conditions being met. A player starting a defuse does not, by itself, make the round end immediately: there must be enough time left, and active utility must not be capable of stopping the defuse.
For Retakes players, that means the faster ending applies when the remaining time and utility allow it. The shorter freeze time and restart delay address separate waits around the rounds themselves.
Map scripting calls move to Entities
Map creators have changes to the scripting interface to consider. Instance.Precache now accepts entities to precache, and Valve has added a top-level Entities export.
Instance.ConnectOutput and Instance.DisconnectOutput have moved to Entities. ConnectOutput also accepts a configuration object. Methods that were moved or renamed remain available at their original locations, but those old calls are deprecated; the notes do not give a removal date.
There is also a change to error reporting: calling a method on an entity that has become invalid because it was deleted now reports that the entity is invalid. That gives creators a clearer indication of the problem when working with deleted entities.
Pet chickens learn a freeze-time trick
During freeze time, pinging a pet chicken now asks it to perform a trick. Its name also no longer appears when the custom item text setting is set to hidden.
Retakes players will see faster defuse endings only when the stated conditions are satisfied, alongside shorter waits between rounds. Creators can continue using the old scripting calls for now, while checking their new locations under Entities.
