Published on September 19, 2026 at 15:02:24 UTC, Dune: Awakening hotfix 1.5.3.1 requires a client-side download. If Steam does not start it automatically, restart the client. official hotfix notes The official Steam patch notes also state that the servers should return shortly, without giving a restart time or confirming that they are back online.

The main limitation is that the planned option to launch without BattlEye has been disabled again. The update still delivers a broad set of progression, exploration, vehicle and stability fixes, but players cannot yet rely on the new launch mode.

Progression and solo-play fixes

The hotfix addresses several issues that could interrupt progress. The final dialogue and cutscene of Book I could be missed by some players, while the “Across the Gap: Refuel the sandbike” journey step could fail to complete after the sandbike had been refueled. Both problems are included among the fixes in version 1.5.3.1.

Solo play also receives targeted corrections. Players could appear beneath the terrain, and one vehicle module’s statistics could be overwritten by those of another. The update addresses both issues. It also fixes a black screen that could appear at the end of the Forty Fears map.

Other gameplay corrections cover Plant Fibers that sometimes provided no resources while remaining in the world, and non-player characters that could be stunned in inaccessible locations. The hotfix also restores the 50% reduction in building costs in the Deep Desert when that discount failed to apply.

New decorations and server settings

Players who log in between September 17 and October 22 can receive a new six-piece decoration set containing one banner, two chairs, two tables and one rug. The notes do not specify the year, deadline time or time zone for this window. The game thumbnail has also been updated.

Administrators of self-hosted servers get a new UserServerCustomSettings.ini file in the SteamCMD download. The file can be applied to the UserSettings folder to activate the new custom settings. The patch notes also list improvements to client and server stability.

Xbox players in the United Kingdom and Australia benefit from a separate correction: the hotfix addresses an age and identity verification problem that could prevent them from joining a multiplayer session.

There is also a rendering fix for vehicles. When approaching distant vehicles quickly, low-quality textures could remain visible for several seconds; version 1.5.3.1 corrects that behavior. Walking on buildings could additionally cause falling or shaking movement, which is addressed in the same update.

BattlEye remains required on affected multiplayer servers

The BattlEye-free launch option was intended for solo mode and for private or self-hosted servers that do not require the anti-cheat. However, the notes say that Steam launch-option settings were not replicating correctly for every client. Some players consequently encountered BattlEye errors when trying to access multiplayer.

To avoid further disruption, the change has been disabled for now. BattlEye remains required on multiplayer servers that have enabled it, and attempting to join one from a client without BattlEye produces an error. The developer says the option will be redeployed as soon as possible without causing new disruptions, but no reactivation date is provided.

For the immediate update, let Steam download version 1.5.3.1 and restart the client if necessary. The decoration set is tied to the announced login window, while the BattlEye-free launch mode remains unavailable pending a later redeployment.
