The Icarus Week 248 update was released on September 3, 2026 with version 3.0.26.156677-rel-DangerousHorizons. Its main change extends automatic Scoria Deep Ore Vein generation beyond Prometheus. The official announcement is available through Steam.

New worlds now generate Scoria veins automatically
When a new world is created, Scoria veins appear on the map without any additional action from the player. Week 248 extends this rule to every prospect and outpost covered by the update; automatic generation was previously limited to Prometheus.
Existing prospects are not updated retroactively
The change does not apply to worlds that were created before the update. An ongoing prospect will not gain Scoria veins automatically, so players must still use the Deep Cycler if they want to generate them on an existing map.
The Week 248 announcement does not specify the Deep Cycler’s cost, usage conditions, required level or detailed procedure. For a prospect already in progress, the available choices are therefore to use the Deep Cycler according to the options shown in-game or to start a new world and benefit from automatic generation.
Several smaller technical fixes are included
The changelog restores the original gold and sulfur icons. It also makes the Sun and Moon positions refresh more frequently, with updates now occurring every 50 ms.
The reward granted by the taxidermy knife when used on the piglet has been corrected. The textures of the skinned Forest Wolf have also been adjusted.
Week 248 improves the display of Ghost Fires as well. The client can now remove fire particles that remain visible after the fire has been extinguished on the server side. This does not fully resolve the desynchronization: heat and thermodynamics continue to be simulated separately on the server and client. A complete fix is planned for a later week, but no specific date has been announced.
The announcement gives no separate deployment time or additional release date. In practice, automatic Scoria vein generation applies to worlds created under Week 248, while existing prospects continue to depend on the Deep Cycler.
