The 7.0 update for No Man’s Sky, titled COSMOS, was announced by Hello Games on September 9, 2026. Hello Games says existing players can download it for free on all platforms, according to anofficial Steam post.
Hello Games presents COSMOS as a space overhaul and says this aspect had not really been updated since the game launched. The update notably adds a new star map, points of interest, mission and exploration chains, space hulks, outposts and orbital construction options.
A new map for exploring space
The COSMOS star map reveals new points of interest and opens up mission and exploration chains.
Large space hulks can be looted and salvaged. A physical gravity gun allows players to extract pieces of metal from them, while a tractor beam is installed on the ship.
A space hulk can begin to melt and explode if the player removes too much metal from it. The announcement does not provide a numerical threshold for this limit.
Outposts, asteroids and orbital bases
The new space outposts allow players to trade with alien life forms, buy maps, obtain information about the area and accept new missions.
COSMOS also adds asteroid belts made up of crystal-rich rock and ice. Some rare asteroids are large enough to land on and build a star base.
Players can also create modular orbital bases floating anywhere in space. They can buy a space station, build and decorate it inside and out, then invite their friends there.
Alliances add a collective dimension
Version 7.0 introduces alliances that players can found and invite other players to join. These alliances have a network of stations and appear in leaderboards for the largest, richest or most prestigious groups.
The announcement does not detail the progression rules or how these categories are calculated.
An expedition devoted to the game’s history
The “Our Journey Continues!” expedition is announced alongside COSMOS. Each of its 40 milestones represents one of the 40 major updates released since No Man’s Sky launched in 2016. The expedition unlocks the features associated with the represented updates.
A spacelog brings together facts and developer commentary. The announcement does not give an end date for the expedition.
