Team Fortress 2’s October 12, 2026 update fixes a Dragon’s Fury exploit that could crash the server. The update applies automatically when you restart the game, according to the official announcement on Steam.

Valve reports that the exploit has been fixed; its effectiveness has not been independently tested by jeu.video. The update also changes specific map mechanics, including how a team can respond after losing the point on Sawmill.

Sawmill adds portals after the point is lost

On koth_sawmill_event, new portals appear in the spawn room of the team that loses the point. They are intended to help that team recover. Losing control of the point triggers their appearance, and the spawn room is where affected players will find them.

Trainsawlaser changes respawns and balcony firefights

On koth_trainsawlaser, respawn times are slightly reduced, shortening the wait before players can return after dying. The notes do not quantify the reduction, so the size of that change remains unclear.

The patch also fixes the ability to shoot through balcony railings. For players fighting around those balconies, this addresses a specific interaction between gunfire and the map’s structures, alongside the adjustment to respawn timing.

Some less important particles have been reclassified as weather effects, allowing players to disable them. Players can therefore turn off those particles while playing the map.

Valve also reports improved overall performance on Trainsawlaser. No measured gains accompany that claim, and the notes do not establish how much of the improvement comes from the particle changes. Disabling those effects should therefore not be treated as a promise of a particular frame rate increase.

Zombie ability icons and Murky rooftops change

A shared fix covers zi_atoll, zi_blazehattan, zi_devastation_final1, zi_murky, zi_sanitarium and zi_woods. Zombie ability icons could sometimes become a white line between level changes; the patch addresses that display problem across all the listed maps.

On zi_murky, rooftop building restrictions have been removed. This opens previously restricted rooftop locations to building, making it a gameplay change distinct from the ability-icon correction that Murky shares with the other maps.

There are also additions for items and their import tools. The General’s Greatcoat gains a style called “No Grenades,” while the in-game item importer now supports the Medic’s backpack bodygroup.

Restart TF2 to apply the update. The portals on Sawmill are intended to help the team that loses the point recover, while the extent of Trainsawlaser’s reported performance improvement remains unmeasured.
