Clash Royale August balance changes with all four Spirits nerfed

Clash Royale has applied its final August balance changes as of August 4, 2026. Supercell is reducing the power of all four Spirits, limiting Hero and Champion abilities to one use and increasing Void’s cost. Several less-played cards receive buffs, while dominant Evolutions are toned down.

Spirits lose some of their tower pressure

All four Spirits drop from 230 to 215 hit points and can no longer hit Crown Towers on their own. According to the official announcement, they accounted for 53% usage in the Top 200 and 31% in ranked play. Their cycle and distraction roles remain, but they offer less free pressure against towers.

The change directly affects fast decks. Players will need to manage their elixir more carefully because Spirits cover fewer situations by themselves.

Abilities become a one-time decision

Hero and Champion abilities no longer work with a cooldown. Except for Boss Bandit, they can now be activated only once. Goblinstein, Little Prince and Mighty Miner receive direct compensations. Goblinstein gains base damage, Little Prince keeps his attack speed during a short movement, and Mighty Miner can now eliminate Skeletons in two hits.

Each activation is now a definitive choice. An ability used too early will not return during the same match, reducing repetitive sequences and potentially making certain decisions easier to read.

Void costs more but hits resilient troops harder

Void rises from 3 to 5 elixir, with a sharp damage increase against resilient targets. The spell is aimed particularly at Bowler, Executioner and Hunter. It could become a credible answer to these troops, but its higher price makes every bad trade more costly.

Hero Ice Golem replaces its third freeze with a slow and deals more damage. Witch Evolution receives a much stronger heal on its first Skeleton wave. Battle Healer no longer heals itself and gains damage and hit points, but loses part of its healing range.

Mortar gains speed, Barbarians gain hit points and Goblins gain damage. Mortar Evolution slows down, giving the base version more room. Conversely, Archers, Giant Snowball, Goblin Barrel, Mega Knight and Valkyrie are among the Evolutions receiving reductions.

Several familiar cards have less room for error

Goblin Drill loses its spawn damage against towers, even though its Goblins deal 4% more damage. Wall Breakers drop from 350 to 281 damage. Bowler and Executioner lose range, while Magic Archer, Royal Delivery and Zappies receive targeted reductions.

These cards will not necessarily disappear from the game, but their margin for error is shrinking. Strong defenses retain their identity while providing less value in each exchange.

Good timing matters more

Compared with typical Clash Royale balance changes, which mainly adjust isolated statistics, this version also changes how cards generate value. Spirits lose some of their pressure on towers, while single-use abilities bring battles closer to a system in which the decisive effect must be spent at the right moment. The comparison with genre standards remains limited: Supercell does not present this patch as a complete overhaul of the combat system.

For players, the consequence is concrete. Cycle decks will need to manage their elixir more carefully, while Void offers a stronger answer to resilient units at greater risk. Our reading is rather positive regarding decision clarity, with one important reservation: the actual place of buffed cards will depend on usage and win rates observed after release.

The update is already live on mobile

This announcement reveals neither a new co-op mode, nor an expansion, nor a platform change. It concerns the competitive gameplay of Clash Royale on mobile. The schedule confirms that the changes are already live on August 4, 2026, without providing a date for upcoming content.

Supercell says it will monitor reactions, usage rates and win rates over the coming months. Spirits’ speed could be revisited in future changes, while Barbarian Hut remains under consideration without belonging to this final version.

Players who already have the buffed cards can try them immediately. For everyone else, waiting for the first trends remains a prudent choice before spending wild cards or resources.

The first weeks will show the patch’s impact

Will cycle decks keep several Spirits? The answer will show whether the nerf genuinely reduces their value or shifts their use to another combination.

Will Void become a regular answer to resilient troops? Its five-elixir cost will be justified only if its additional damage compensates for the risk taken by the player.

Will single-use abilities make Heroes easier to read? This change could clarify battles, but its effect on the cards concerned remains to be observed in ranked matches.
