Far Far West is preparing an update built around more control during runs and more varied encounters. Players are expected to choose between two Jokers whenever one drops, while the planned Disturbance system will add modifiers based on map progress, mission difficulty and the tier reached. The developer presented these changes in its September 19, 2026 devlog, while warning that everything shown remains work in progress and may change before release.
No release date is given, so the announcement describes the direction of the update rather than a patch players can access now.
Two Jokers to choose from during a run
Whenever a Joker drops in the next update, players will choose between two options. That gives each run a more deliberate decision point: the available choice can be weighed against the current objective, map progress or developing build instead of being accepted as a single result.
The change does not remove uncertainty altogether. The devlog only confirms the two-option choice; it does not establish the final Joker pool, selection rules or balance of the system. Its practical effect will therefore depend on which options appear together once the feature reaches the game.
Disturbance adds modifiers tied to the map
The planned Disturbance system is intended to support difficulty and replayability through modifiers that respond to three factors: what the player accomplishes on the map, the selected mission difficulty and the Disturbance tier reached.
Those modifiers will be divided into “Easy” and “Hard” categories, with their effects tracked next to the minimap. That placement should make the active conditions visible during a mission, although the devlog does not yet define the exact values or the final composition of each tier. The system’s impact will consequently depend on how those modifiers interact with the chosen difficulty.

Cryptic bosses are being reworked
The update also targets several Cryptic bosses. The stated goal is to add more patterns and make encounters less frustrating, with the Saloon and Vulture receiving the clearest details so far. The same level of work is expected for the Necromancer and the Train, but their revised mechanics have not been outlined.
For the Saloon, the boss is planned to take damage everywhere, while the planks will remain weakspots. Its second phase would be removed, and new patterns are planned for the Very Hard and Nightmare difficulties.
The Vulture is expected to move around the arena rather than remain static. Very Hard and Nightmare will receive new patterns, and more of its patterns should become regularly counterable. These changes point to encounters that rely more on reading movement and attack patterns, but their final balance is still subject to change.
Redwood, seasonal characters and reconnection protection
A new Lady Granny questline is planned for the Woodlands. Completing it will unlock the Redwood map, giving the update a progression objective alongside its combat changes.
The devlog also announces a Halloween event in which spooky-season characters will be unlockable. Those characters will then be vaulted until the next spooky season. The event has no confirmed schedule yet, so the announcement does not establish when the unlock window will open or close.
Another planned quality-of-life feature concerns disconnections: reconnecting to a game should return the Jokers found before the interruption. Optimization work is also intended to improve framerate for everyone, with the largest difference expected for players hosting lobbies, particularly on higher difficulties. That performance outcome is the developer’s expectation, not an independent benchmark.
A direction for the next update, not a finished feature list
Far Far West’s next update is shaping up around three connected ideas: more choice when Jokers appear, mission conditions that react to player progress and boss fights with broader, less frustrating patterns. Redwood, seasonal unlocks and reconnection protection extend that work beyond combat.
For now, the important limit is the status of the announcement itself. The features are still in development, their release timing is unconfirmed, and the final version may not match the devlog exactly. The official announcement on Steam remains the reference for the announced changes.
