Gran Turismo 7 will receive the free Spec IV update in two waves, scheduled for October and December 2026. Sportsland SUGO opens the update
The first Spec IV wave will add Sportsland SUGO in October. The Japanese circuit is known for its elevation changes, flowing layout and Dunlop Bridge, but PlayStation has not announced the exact deployment date or time.
The December wave will introduce Autumn Ring and Family Mode. Already featured in the first Gran Turismo, Autumn Ring connects this update with the series’ history. Its integration into Gran Turismo 7, including any specific settings, has not yet been detailed.
Both waves will be free. The announced content has not been divided precisely between the October and December releases, so the full scope of each update remains to be clarified.
12 cars and new online formats
Polyphony Digital plans to add 12 cars, although their models have not been revealed. Spec IV will also introduce Online Drift Trials, focused on control and precision, and Shuffle Races, an online format in which certain race conditions will be randomized.
The update will add new Driving Experiences, an enhanced Car Viewer, additional progression elements and a Concierge feature dedicated to buying cars. These features extend driving challenges, vehicle discovery and progression, but their precise rules are still unknown.
Family Mode is designed for sessions involving players with different skill levels. PlayStation describes it as a more accessible way to play with family or friends. Its settings, rewards and exact operation have yet to be announced.
A first step toward Gran Turismo’s 30th anniversary
PlayStation presents Spec IV as the start of celebrations for the 30th anniversary of the original Gran Turismo in 2027. Autumn Ring brings a historical connection to the announcement, while Sportsland SUGO is the first newly identified circuit in this sequence.
A new presentation is scheduled for the Gran Turismo World Series Round 3 in Singapore on October 3, 2026. It could reveal the car list, deployment dates and more details about Family Mode, but none of that information has been confirmed yet.
Spec IV therefore establishes two free update windows in 2026 and confirms two circuits without changing Gran Turismo 7’s availability on PS4 and PS5. The main unresolved points are the identities of the 12 cars and the detailed rules for the new modes.
