Modern Warfare 4 will launch on October 23 with 33 weapons. Multiplayer players will begin with preset loadouts before unlocking Create-a-Class at player level 4.
In its official overview published on October 19, Call of Duty details an arsenal comprising 24 primary weapons, eight secondary weapons and one melee weapon. Alongside the lineup, the announcement explains how attachment unlocks, loadout choices and weapon progression will work across Multiplayer and DMZ.
Compatible weapons share attachment unlocks
Unlocking an attachment will make it available for every weapon that supports it. Players moving between compatible weapons will therefore be able to reuse that part without unlocking it again. Compatibility remains the boundary: a shared unlock does not make an attachment usable across the entire arsenal.
Loadout composition will also depend on perk selection. In Multiplayer, Overkill will let players replace their secondary weapon with a second primary. Carrying two primary weapons will therefore require choosing that perk.
Apex attachments have a separate progression requirement. On weapons that support them, they will unlock when the weapon reaches its maximum level and will not occupy a standard attachment slot. Their unlock remains tied to leveling that particular weapon, even when other compatible parts are already available.
33 Operators, with access tied to different conditions
The launch roster will also include 33 Operators usable in Multiplayer and DMZ. Some will be accessible immediately, while others will require challenges, a preorder or the Vault Edition. The roster total should therefore not be read as the number of characters every player will have unlocked at launch.

In Multiplayer, the Operator field in Create-a-Class will let players assign a character to each loadout. That puts Operator selection within the setup of an individual class, allowing the chosen character to be linked to that loadout.
DMZ keeps a Cash requirement for Gunsmith purchases
Weapons and attachments unlocked or leveled up in Multiplayer or DMZ will be accessible at the FOB's Gunsmith station in DMZ. Players will still need enough DMZ Cash to purchase them. Progression across the modes will make those purchases available, but the unlock itself will not cover their cost.
Weapon Prestige introduces a different trade-off: activating it will reset that weapon's level to zero and relock its attachments in exchange for exclusive camos. This concerns Weapon Prestige, separate from player Prestige, and directly affects the customization options earned for the weapon being reset.
For Call of Duty: Warzone, content integration is announced for Season 1, later in the year. That gives it a separate arrival window from Modern Warfare 4's October 23 launch; no more precise date has been announced in the overview.
The attachment system will make it easier to carry compatible unlocks between weapons. Weapon Prestige remains the consequential choice for an established build: pursuing its exclusive camos means accepting a level reset and locked attachments on that weapon.
