A reliable Clash Royale beginner deck gives every card a clear job: a win condition, air defence, area damage and two spells. If the deck costs too much, one exchange can leave your towers without a response.

Build the deck around eight clear roles

Use Giant, Musketeer, Mini P.E.K.K.A, Valkyrie, Bomber, Archers, Arrows and Fireball. The Giant targets towers and absorbs damage; the other seven cards defend or support his advance.

CardRoleBest time to use it
GiantAttacks towers and protects unitsAfter defending or from the back at full elixir
MusketeerRanged damage and air defenceBehind the Giant or near your tower
Mini P.E.K.K.ATakes out large unitsOn defence, then on a counter-push
ValkyrieGround area damageAgainst grouped troops at the bridge
Bomber and ArchersLow-cost supportTo defend without committing your expensive cards
Arrows and FireballArea spellsWhen several important targets can be hit

There is no need to play all eight cards in one push. A Giant followed by a Musketeer can already force a response. When your elixir reserve is low, protect your towers instead of adding more support.

Defend first, then turn survivors into pressure

  1. Read the opening attack. Play an Archer or Bomber from the back if you need to cycle your hand.
  2. Defend near your towers. Their fire reduces the elixir needed to repel the attack.
  3. Find the anti-Giant card. Do not place your Giant in the same lane without a prepared answer.
  4. Count elixir before the bridge. Keep enough for Arrows, Archers or Mini P.E.K.K.A.
  5. Counter-attack with survivors. Put the Giant in front of a surviving Musketeer or Mini P.E.K.K.A.

Do not leave the other lane undefended. If a large troop appears there while your Giant is advancing, return to defence: losing a tower costs more than abandoning a push.

Upgrade the cards you actually use

New arenas gradually add cards to your collection, but an unlock does not require an immediate deck change. Replace a card only with another that fills the same role, then test the adjustment over several matches.

Your Collection Level progresses with card levels. Evolutions and Heroes also contribute, according to Supercell's official support. This does not change the priority on the Trophy Road: upgrade the cards you actually play first.

Begin with the Giant and your main damage source, then upgrade Musketeer, Mini P.E.K.K.A and your spells. The latest information, gaming news and our practical features can also help you track changes that may affect your collection.

Five mistakes that waste elixir

  • Investing everything behind the first Giant: you have no defence in the other lane.
  • Attacking at the bridge without information: your support may disappear before it can act.
  • Saving Arrows for the tower: they mainly protect your defence against small troops.
  • Changing four cards after one loss: you will not know what actually failed.
  • Spending gold on every new card: uneven levels quickly hurt you in the early arenas.

After three similar losses, identify the enemy card that costs you the most elixir and adjust a single answer. That keeps the deck readable while giving you a useful test.

Frequently asked questions

Which deck should you play in the early arenas?

Giant, Musketeer, Mini P.E.K.K.A, Valkyrie, Bomber, Archers, Arrows and Fireball cover the essential needs.

When should you play the Giant?

Play it after a successful defence or from the back at full elixir. Keep enough elixir to defend the other lane.

Which card should you upgrade first?

Start with the Giant and your main damage card. Then upgrade the defenders and spells in the same deck.

How do you defend against a large enemy troop?

Place Mini P.E.K.K.A near your tower. It adds its attacks and lets you keep more elixir for support.

When should you replace a card in the deck?

Replace a card only when facing a repeated problem. Then test the change over several matches. To check card and progression changes, consult the official Clash Royale page, the Collection Level support page and the March 2026 release notes. Global Tournaments require owned cards, but card levels are set to level 11 there according to the March 2026 notes; the same information is also available through the official page, the Collection Level support page and the March 2026 release notes.
