Elden Ring: How to Farm Runes Safely with Lenne’s Boulder

For Elden Ring rune farming, Lenne’s boulder route offers a short repeatable loop without requiring a fight. Set a clear target first—a level, an upgrade or a purchase—then spend the runes as soon as you reach it.

Runes pay for levels, items and equipment upgrades. A second death before recovering them erases the reserve. Sites of Grace and Torrent are central to this early-game routine. The official starter guide explains these basics.

What makes Lenne’s route useful

  • The route starts near a Site of Grace and can be repeated without winning a fight.
  • Vigor and an upgraded weapon often help more than scattered stat points.
  • The Gold Scarab increases rune earnings, but reaching it is riskier.

Send the boulder into the ravine

The route is east of Caelid, near Lenne’s Rise. Torrent is required, so you must have met Melina and received the Spectral Steed Whistle.

From the Third Church of Marika, take the portal behind the church to the Bestial Sanctum. Avoid the Black Blade Kindred, ride south along the road and activate the Lenne’s Rise Site of Grace.

  1. Rest at the Site of Grace.
  2. Mount Torrent and ride down the slope.
  3. Wait for the large boulder to come up behind you.
  4. Move aside late so it falls into the ravine.
  5. Check the rune counter and return to the Site of Grace.

Leave space ahead of the boulder and avoid riding along the edge too early. Do not try to hit it. If Torrent is struck or the camera behaves badly, return to the Site of Grace and restart the loop.

Spend the runes on the next concrete gain

Decide how many runes you need before each run. The target may cover a level, a weapon upgrade, a batch of flasks or a merchant purchase.

Early on, Vigor creates a more forgiving health pool. After that, raise the Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, Faith or Arcane required by your weapon or spell. Points spent without a defined use can slow progress.

Upgrade one weapon before spreading resources

A lightly upgraded weapon can limit the benefit of a high level. The smithing table at the Church of Elleh handles the first upgrades; Smithing Master Hewg at the Roundtable Hold takes over afterwards.

Smithing Stones appear in Limgrave mines and caves, among other places. Bandai Namco's official advice confirms this. Choose a weapon you intend to keep for several hours: upgrading three weapons at once costs a lot for little immediate result.

Gear and routes for later

The Gold Scarab increases runes earned and is found in Caelid’s Abandoned Cave after a dangerous passage. Do not carry a large rune reserve for this detour. Activate several Sites of Grace first and prepare your main weapon.

For Lenne’s route, the essential setup is simple: Torrent, a Flask of Crimson Tears and a familiar path. Positioning matters more than a talisman.

Palace Approach Ledge-Road in Mohgwyn offers a better yield later, but the Albinaurics remain dangerous if alerted. It is not an early-game priority; Lenne’s route is better for securing a few levels.

Explore to reduce the need for farming

Map fragments, Golden Seeds and Sacred Tears provide lasting gains. If an enemy blocks progress, mark its location and explore elsewhere. Limgrave’s Tree Sentinel can wait until you have an upgraded weapon, a few levels or a summon.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many runes should you keep before returning to a Site of Grace?

Keep only the amount needed for your next level or purchase, then spend it when you reach the threshold.

Can Lenne’s boulder kill Torrent?

Yes. Stay mounted and move out of its path late so it falls into the ravine.

Should you get the Gold Scarab before farming?

No. Its bonus is useful, but reaching it in Caelid is riskier than Lenne’s route.

Should you level Vigor or damage first?

Choose Vigor if you die quickly. If you survive but lack damage, upgrade your weapon first.
