Future GPX Cyber Formula ASURADA, a new animated short and direct sequel to SIN, will open in Japanese cinemas on February 19, 2027. It will screen alongside EARLYDAYS RENEWAL: MOVIE EDITION, pairing a continuation of the saga with a remastered compilation of its television story.
The franchise’s official website has released the main trailer for the double feature. In its October 20 announcement, Crunchyroll reports the release and details the projects sharing the bill. ASURADA was created for the franchise’s anniversary, while EARLYDAYS RENEWAL brings an existing compilation to cinemas with changes to both its presentation and its edit.
EARLYDAYS RENEWAL gets an HD remaster and a new edit
EARLYDAYS RENEWAL: MOVIE EDITION draws on the television series compilation released in two parts on VHS and LaserDisc in 1996. The theatrical edition gives that compilation an HD remaster, taking material previously released on those home-video formats into a cinema programme.
There is also a new edit supervised by Mitsuo Fukuda. That distinction matters: the work involves both updating the picture and revisiting how the television story is assembled into a compilation. Viewers familiar with the earlier release therefore have an editorial change to consider alongside the remaster, although the announcement does not identify the sequences affected.
ASURADA continues the story after SIN
The new animation has a different role in the programme. ASURADA is a direct sequel to Future GPX Cyber Formula SIN, whose OVAs were released between 1998 and 2000. Its place in the chronology makes it the continuation for viewers following the story beyond SIN, while EARLYDAYS RENEWAL returns to the television series through compilation.
ASURADA is a short film, which sets the scale of the new instalment within this theatrical pairing. The anniversary project advances the existing storyline, with Mitsuo Fukuda credited as both director and screenwriter. Hirokazu Hisayuki handles character design, and Shoji Kawamori designs the cyber machines.
Fukuda’s involvement connects the productions through distinct responsibilities: supervising the compilation’s new edit and writing and directing the sequel. The programme consequently combines a fresh arrangement of earlier material with a newly animated continuation.
The February release date applies to Japanese cinemas. For viewers awaiting the story after SIN, ASURADA is the new chapter; the accompanying compilation gives the same theatrical programme a route back through the television story.
