The official Hearts of Iron IV Dev Corner published on September 15, 2026, asks players how air transport and supply should evolve. Three concepts are under discussion: automating transport wings, creating direct links between airfields, and using captured enemy airfields to support airborne operations.
The current game already supports supply by airdrop. Transport aircraft and fuel can deliver supplies, but their effects are spread across an entire air zone. The official post published on Steam The new proposals are therefore design ideas, not an announced update.
Three possible directions for HOI4 air supply
The first proposal would make transport wings more abstract at the national level. Instead of managing them directly, the game could assign them automatically according to supply needs, using a model comparable to naval convoys. That could reduce routine micromanagement, although the post does not define the automation rules or how much control players would keep.
The second concept would connect two controlled airfields with a point-to-point supply route. Compared with the current airdrop system, this would make delivery more targeted and better suited to operations dependent on a specific logistics link. Its conditions, efficiency and limitations remain open questions.
The third idea ties airborne warfare directly to logistics. Airborne troops could capture and hold an enemy airfield, then use it as a supply base rather than remain entirely isolated. The Dev Corner mentions Crete as the inspiration for this approach, but the mechanic is still only being presented for feedback.
No new feature is available yet
The announcement changes no game rules. It asks players to comment on the limits of the current transport-wing system and on how aircraft should deliver troops and supplies, but it does not select one proposal over the others.
Each option carries a different trade-off: less manual management, more precise logistics, or a stronger connection between airborne assaults and captured infrastructure. The post gives no implementation date, deployment version, price or availability for any of them, so players using air transport or airdrops have no new system to test yet.
For now, Hearts of Iron IV is collecting feedback on the shape of a possible air-supply overhaul. Whether any of these ideas reaches the game, and in what form, remains undecided.
