A strong Brawl Stars Ranked draft begins with the mode, the map and the lanes your team must hold. Even a powerful Brawler can struggle when the composition lacks control or mobility.
Bronze, Silver and Gold use Best-of-1 with free selection. Diamond adds bans. Mythic, Legendary, Masters and Pro use Best-of-3 with bans and alternating picks. Higher ranks also require up to 12 Power Level 11 Brawlers. The official Ranked rules remains the reference before every season.

Read the map before choosing a Brawler
The win condition sets your draft priority. In Gem Grab, the mid must hold the gems and have a safe retreat. In Brawl Ball, create an opening for the ball carrier while controlling the engagement angles.
In Knockout or Bounty, an early death often costs more than a forced kill is worth. Take space before looking for the duel.
Rotations change with the seasons. The official June 2026 notes list Rustic Arcade and Crystal Arcade for Gem Grab, as well as Spiraling Out and Beach Ball for Brawl Ball. Always check the rotation shown in the client.

Before locking in your choice, ask which space decides the round, which lane will be hardest to hold, and whether your team can answer close-range threats, walls and long-range attackers.
Match the build to the lane
The best build depends on the mission. Match the Brawler, gadget and lane before making your choice.
- Open lane: prioritize range, survival after a trade and the ability to maintain an angle.
- Closed lane: choose a tool that breaks a wall, knocks the opponent back or keeps them at a distance.
- Mid: take a gadget that protects the objective or reaches a lane quickly.
- Finisher: save your gadget to secure an elimination or score a goal.
Gadgets can be used multiple times since the Ranked rework, with each one having its own cooldown. Do not spend one on the first contact without considering the next danger window.
A defensive gadget should answer the opponent's engage. A mobility gadget helps you take an angle, escape crossfire or recover the ball. A control gadget becomes more valuable after the enemy has emptied their magazine.
Copying a professional player's gadget can be a mistake: their choice depends on their lane, map and allied composition.
Hold your lane while protecting mid
A lane is a responsibility: win or neutralize the duel, stop the enemy advance and open a path for the team.
The mid player should help the lane in trouble, but should not abandon the objective without a reason.
On an open map, place a marksman or controller on the best line of sight. Avoid putting three Brawlers on the same axis, or both sides may remain open to the opponent.
On a closed map, breaking a wall or pushing back an entrance can matter more than choosing a Brawler who looks stronger on paper.

Build around three functions
Three damage profiles may all wait for the same opening. Look instead for three complementary functions.
| Function | Mission | Mistake to avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Lane control | Hold one side and cut off an entrance | Backing up after every shot |
| Mid or support | Maintain the objective and help a lane | Following a lane without watching center |
| Pressure or finishing | Punish a weakened target and convert the advantage | Diving alone before the enemy's ammo is spent |
A composition built around range, control and mobility benefits from clear lines of fire. A tank, support and anti-tank composition is better suited to closed maps. In Hot Zone, control, area denial and finishing depend on positioning.
Piper, Belle and Brock represent ranged profiles. Gene, Sandy and Tara bring control. Max, Bibi and certain assassins can convert an advantage. These examples do not replace reading the map.

Use a clear draft procedure
From Diamond onward, the draft becomes part of the match. Ban the Brawler that most reduces your options on the map.
- Note the mode and map.
- Assign the lane to your best player.
- Choose a priority: range, control, wall breaking, anti-tank or mobility.
- If you are first, take a Brawler who is stable across several scenarios.
- After the enemy picks, complete the missing answer.
- Equip the gadget for the expected duel.
- Play for ten seconds to read the positions before forcing a play.
- After a loss, correct one identifiable mistake.
Stop the mistakes that stall progress
A comfort pick becomes a bad choice when the map gives it no angle or when the team lacks an essential tool.
Winning a lane does not mean running all the way to the enemy spawn. Keep the space you gained and help the objective.
A flashy gadget cannot compensate for poor positioning. If one choice fails, test the other gadget over three comparable matches.
In a Best-of-3, do not repeat exactly the same engage. Change the first movement or the gadget timing.
