To beat Medusa in Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, match your response to the attack: drop below the platform strike, grapple back up when bubbles appear, turn away from her petrifying cone, and shelter behind the large rock during her lasers. The small floating heads require separate attention: turning your back does not stop their petrification.

Prepare your equipment without overlooking the counters

In his Mobalytics guide updated on October 21, 2026, Sam Ferber recommends the spear found in Holy Innocents Cemetery and suggests Infernal Pyre as a damage-dealing Arcana. Use these as equipment options for his method, rather than a proven best combination: the recommendation does not establish a measured advantage over other weapons.

If you do not have them, work on the defensive movements with your current equipment. A missed grapple or a petrifying cone calls for a different correction from insufficient damage. Once you can execute the counters reliably, try Ferber’s suggested equipment if dealing damage remains the problem and those options are available.

The official Steam description lists seven weapon categories, alongside relics with offensive and defensive effects. Your equipment gives you options for approaching combat, but the responses below depend on movement, facing and cover. Changing your weapon does not replace those actions.

Drop below the platform strike, then watch for bubbles

During the first phase, move down to the lower level when Medusa strikes the platform. Ferber’s method then calls for an immediate return when bubbles appear: grapple back up at that cue to avoid remaining exposed to the tentacle.

  1. Drop to the lower level for the platform strike.
  2. Watch for bubbles while below.
  3. Grapple back up as soon as they appear.

The important part is treating the descent and return as a connected movement. Dropping down answers the platform strike, but it does not make the lower level a place to wait through the rest of the attack. Keep your attention on the bubbles rather than assuming the danger has passed after the impact.

If you escape the strike but take damage below, focus your next attempt on the return. Check whether you noticed the bubbles and began grappling when they appeared. Keeping your equipment unchanged while practising this sequence makes it easier to concentrate on that specific correction.

Turn away from the cone, but keep watching the heads

For Medusa’s petrifying cone, turn Rose’s back to Medusa. This is a facing response: make sure the character is turned away rather than relying on a platform change to do the same job.

The small floating heads can also petrify Rose, and turning away does not protect against their attack. Do not treat every instance of petrification as evidence that the cone counter failed. Identify whether the cone or a floating head caused it before changing how you respond.

That distinction matters when correcting a failed attempt. If the cone catches Rose, check her facing. If a floating head is responsible, repeating the turn-away action will not solve that threat. Keep the cone counter while paying attention to the heads separately; the shared petrification effect does not mean they share a defense.

Take cover behind the rock when the lasers begin

For the laser sequence, move to the upper platform on the opposite side and position Rose behind the large rock as soon as the beams begin. Your destination is the cover itself, not simply the platform.

If you reach the opposite side and still take a hit from the lasers, check Rose’s position relative to the rock. Getting across and getting behind the obstacle are distinct parts of the response. Correct the cover position before changing equipment to address damage taken during this sequence.

In the second phase, dust on the ceiling warns of small falling rocks. Watch for that cue on the upper platform on the opposite side and avoid the debris. The rock answers the laser sequence, while the ceiling dust tells you to watch for a separate danger above Rose.

Keep other bosses’ counters separate

In his July 17, 2026 report on PlayStation Blog, Corey Brotherson reports jumping over The Fallen’s cross and whip attack. That is an observed response to those attacks, not a reason to replace Medusa’s platform, facing and cover counters with jumps.

Brotherson describes Joan of Arc using flaming sword strikes, attacks from behind and fireballs. Those threats call for attention beyond the sword in front of Rose, but the report does not establish a complete sequence of responses or timings for that fight.

He also reports invincibility frames during dodges in a pre-release PS5 build. The build number and invincibility duration were unspecified, so that observation should not be treated as a guarantee that dodging will carry Rose through every attack in the released game. For Medusa, use the specific counters above as your starting point.

After a victory, check Rose’s available abilities: KONAMI explains that defeated bosses are sealed in her tarot cards and become Arcana, granting access to spells and special actions. This describes the general Arcana system rather than confirming a particular reward for every individual boss.

For your next Medusa attempt, choose the failed response you need to correct: returning at the bubbles, facing away from the cone, reaching cover, or avoiding falling debris. Keep the counters that already work, and reconsider your damage options once those movements are reliable.
