Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled to launch on October 23 with 12 Core 6v6 maps. Shipment is due on October 27. In its October 21 announcement, Call of Duty Staff also details separate Ground War and Gunfight selections, plus the new Inflation and Hijack modes.

The Core lineup, from Cachette to Transit 213

The announced Core maps are Cachette, Coal, Lithium, Lotus, Mumbai, Munition, Nautical, Reactor U92, Rooftops, Sentry, Silkworm and Transit 213. Shipment follows 4 days after the scheduled release, so players specifically waiting for that map have a separate date to plan around.

The launch selection extends beyond Core. 32v32 Ground War has three announced maps: Imjin Farmland, Wolves Stadium and Forest. For 2v2 Gunfight, the 4 maps are Cafe, Library, NYC and Smuggler. The headline count of 12 applies to Core 6v6, rather than the entire multiplayer map lineup.

Kill Block reconfigures between rounds

Kill Block is also announced for Gunfight at launch, supporting 3v3 and 10v10. Its modular battlefield changes configuration between rounds, with the publisher advertising more than 500 combinations.

That gives learning the layout a different role: routes and landmarks from a previous round may change, requiring players to adjust their movement as the battlefield reconfigures. The combination count describes the announced scope of that system; it does not establish how varied or balanced those configurations will feel in play.

Inflation puts wealthy players on the map

In Inflation, the team holding the most money at the end wins. Accumulating money also creates exposure: a player who reaches the High Value Target threshold has their position revealed to allies and opponents alike.

The trade-off sits directly within the scoring objective. A player carrying enough money to trigger the reveal contributes to the team's total while becoming visible to the opposition. Teammates receive that location information too, allowing both sides to identify the marked player.

Hijack makes the objective something teammates can pass

Hijack centres on delivering a Data Spike to the opposing team's Comm Station. Players can carry, throw and pass the object before planting it, then score points during the data transfer.

Those interactions allow the delivery to involve several teammates, with the Data Spike changing hands on its way to the station. Reaching the destination and scoring are distinct parts of the objective: points come during the transfer after the device is planted.

The announced Hardcore rules combine a limited HUD, friendly fire and reduced health without regeneration. Taking cover will not restore lost health through regeneration, while teammates can be hit by allied fire.

The launch lineup therefore gives Core, Ground War and Gunfight players different maps to learn, with Kill Block adding changes between rounds. For players whose immediate interest is Shipment, the relevant date remains October 27.
